What a Dietitian Buys at Costco: Costco Haul May 2018

Costco is my jam. I probably love Costco way more than anyone should. I love shopping in season, locally, and through our CSA, but for other staple items, I’m all about Costco. They have lots of really quality brands – the same ones you’d buy at higher priced health food stores. It’s a great resource for stocking your fridge and pantry with healthy items. You kind of just have to know what to look for, go in with a list, and avoid the super tempting 800 snack options they have there. Trust me on having a list.

I’ve had a ton of people ask what I buy at Costco. I go about once a month, and it’s not the same every time since many of the items last me for months. I’ll try to post about it whenever I do go to give you an idea about all the amazing options there. Here is what I bought this time:

Price breakdown

2# organic cauliflower – $4.99

avocado oil – $9.89

4 loaves of gluten free bread – $15.98

2# organic Brussels sprouts – $4.49

1# organic baby spinach – $3.99

~3# organic chicken breast – $15.32 ($4.99/pound)

6# organic bananas – $3.98

2# mushrooms – $4.79

6 avocados – $6.99

2# snap peas – $5.99

42oz Birch Benders Paleo Pancake Mix – $11.69

1 pineapple – $1.99

42 oz organic strawberry jam – $6.89 (not my favorite because it does have added sugar, but I needed something to have that day)

32 oz Mateo’s salsa – $6.19

3# organic apple s- $4.79

2# fresh garlic – $4.99

32oz Sugarhouse Maple chicken breakfast sausage – $13.99

6# organic pears – $7.99

2# organic sliced cheddar – $10.99

2# organic strawberries – $5.79

2 organic whole chickens – $21.89

That comes to a grand total of: $179.72.

That is A LOT of groceries for that price. We will go through it pretty quick over at our house since most of it is produce. I’m curious, what are your favorite things to buy at Costco?
